The Customer

Doppelmayr Group is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of ropeway systems. At its Wolfurt facility, more than 15,000 tons of steel components are processed annually for structural fabrication. The finished parts must meet the highest standards of quality and durability.

“With the EasyGrinder from Teqram, we were able to fully automate the grinding and shot blasting of our components — making the process more efficient, safer, and capable of running 24/7.” (Doppelmayr Seilbahnen GmbH)

The Challenge

Grinding of cut parts had previously been performed manually by in-house staff and temporary workers. The work was physically demanding, difficult to staff, and highly dependent on individual operators. At the same time, requirements for throughput, process reliability, and consistently high surface quality continued to increase — despite a growing shortage of skilled labor.

The Solution

  • Deployment of an EasyGrinder robot for automated deburring, grinding, and shot blasting
  • Automatic part recognition without manual programming
  • Automatic selection of optimal process parameters for each component
  • Removal of slag and oxide layers in a single operation
  • Edge breaking and rounding with defined radii
  • Integrated processing of weld seams and drilled holes
  • Automated stacking of finished parts onto pallets
  • Fully autonomous operation — operators only supply pallets
Small parts are securely held in place by magnets during turning on the integrated EasyFlipper.

The Results

  • Fully automated process with minimal labor requirements
  • Significant relief for employees from physically demanding tasks
  • Improved workplace safety in both cutting and finishing areas
  • Shorter cycle times and increased productivity
  • 24/7 operation with consistent, repeatable quality
  • High flexibility for changing batch sizes and production demands

Why Teqram

Doppelmayr selected Teqram because the solution operates fully autonomously without manual programming and adapts flexibly to changing part geometries and batch sizes. In a demanding structural steel environment, the EasyGrinder delivers consistent, repeatable quality while reducing labor requirements.

Conclusion

With the EasyGrinder, Doppelmayr automated a previously labor-intensive process step and established the foundation for safer, more efficient, and scalable steel production. The solution combines quality, process stability, and cost-effectiveness in one integrated system.
